Our Technology Advantage
Dr. White is a big fan of any technology that can improve the experience you have in our office and/or the quality of the work you receive. Sorting through the plethora of new technology that is available to find things that actually improve the quality of care we provide is an ongoing labor of love for Dr. White. Below you can see just a few of the modern innovations in dentistry that we use to provide the highest quality dentistry.
Cone Beam CT Scanner
Our Cone beam CT scanner allows us to take 3D pictures of your teeth and jaws. This means Dr. White can see things that simply can’t be seen on a regular 2D X-ray. This device, which is normally found only in specialist’s offices, gives Dr. White a definitive tool for navigating the more complex and challenging situations that arise in dentistry all the time.
Digital X-Rays
Digital X-Rays allow a higher quality of care. With digital x-rays, high resolution images of your teeth are on the computer screen in seconds. This means no darkroom full of caustic developing chemicals and no waiting for development of films. This technology allows us to use far less radiation than conventional film x-rays. Dr. White can immediately view large, full screen, high quality images of your teeth, (and more easily show them to you) allowing for more accurate diagnosis. These images can also be sent electronically to insurance companies, which can help claims get processed faster.
High Magnification
When you take a moment to think about it, teeth are very small. Your dentist’s ability to very closely observe your teeth is obviously important. Dr. White is keenly aware of how important it really is. He wears extreme magnification surgical loupes and a headlight during every procedure. Loupes, especially when combined with a strong headlight, offer dramatically improved visibility. They allow Dr. White to bring even the smallest details into focus; details that absolutely would be missed by the naked eye. The bottom line is that this enhanced visual acuity for Dr. White allows better procedural outcomes for his patients.
Computerized Charts
While digital record keeping (patient charts kept on computer instead of on paper) is the “latest thing” in the dental world, Dr. White has been using computerized charting exclusively for almost 15 years. This technology allows for very precise records. It streamlines your entire appointment, saving you time and allowing for a more stress free experience. Your entire dental history can be easily searched, reviewed and considered by Dr. White to help him make accurate decisions regarding your dental health. This clear advantage allows more information to be available more readily when diagnostic decisions are being made.
Digital Impression Scanner
What used to require a mouth full of impression material (GOOP) now can be done with the digital scanner Dr. White uses instead. This device takes photos inside your mouth, stitches them together into a 3 dimensional “model” of your mouth, so you don’t have to sit through traditional impressions and the gagging and mess that go along with them. Quicker, easier and better; that’s what we like!
Diagnodent
The Diagnodent Laser Cavity Detection System is a completely pain free way to use light to detect cavities with precision. This piece of technology is very valuable for catching cavities which might otherwise be missed. Dr. White find’s it especially useful in determining that a tooth DOES NOT have a cavity even when other signs indicate there might be one. Regardless, the increase in accuracy is without question an advantage.
Surgical Microscope
While the surgical loupes that Dr. White wears are very powerful, there are times when even more high powered magnification is needed. The surgical microscope is a device that, in critical situations, allows for more accurate diagnosis, faster treatment and better overall results. There are only a handful of general practitioners in the state of Indiana who have a surgical microscope. Dr. White has been using one for years.
High Intensity Light
It is very dark in your mouth. Especially towards the back of your mouth. The higher the intensity of the light being used to illuminate your tooth during dental procedures, the better the chances are that nothing is missed. Dr. White uses a powerful LED headlamp that is several times brighter than the conventional “dental light” you see in other dental offices. This, combined with the high magnification of his surgical loupes, improves the quality of the dental work he provides for his patients.
